Going to my family’s farm in Nebraska for the 4th of July is something my little family looks forward to every year. For us, the ability to actually shoot off fireworks and get some really big one’s far out weighs staying in Colorado where they have so many laws you can’t even have a sparkler. The whole point of the 4th of July is to celebrate freedom! So off to Nebraska we go to enjoy the open space, time with family & friends, eat good food, and send fireworks into the sky.

My mom’s garden always looks amazing in July! There are so many beautiful flowers blooming and the garden beds are lush with growth. This is where I started practicing photography 30 years ago and I continue to practice in this same garden every summer. I have photographed those pink poppies below countless times and can be found in the shop (one of my all time faves). My mom loves a more cottage style garden which I love because it’s a little more opposite of my preference. Her garden is a bit wild with flowers self seeding wherever they like which make this garden change a little every year. As a photographer, I love that it’s always a little different.

That’s a little of our holiday in Nebraska! I hope you enjoyed a few fireworks pics (read this how to if you are interested) and a few captures of my mom’s garden.
