This week I photographed the garden. This is something that I intentionally do every growing season and every month in that growing season which for us is May-September, sometimes into October. I have found this process of documenting the work we have put into this garden and how it has changed and matured very enjoyable. I also love practicing garden photography. I follow a few garden photographer’s and think what a wonderful job that must be to photograph beautifully designed gardens. I’m perfectly happy photographing my garden though.

This garden provides an abundance of joy and inspiration. It fuels my creativity in so many ways. Photographing the little details and the views we get to enjoy. Capturing the sunset light as it skims across and makes it glow. Chasing the bees, butterflies and birds who are also enjoying the garden. Plus just being out there tending to the plants, adding new things to try, and yes pulling weeds.

Everything in this garden has been chosen and placed by us so it’s all things that I fell in love with while browsing our local garden nurseries. When we moved into this house in July of 2020 the garden was full of weeds. Many well established weeds.
I personally think that it is worth the effort of intentionally taking photos of this garden each month every growing season. As a gardener, I love looking back at what plants we planted first and what I planted in each season. Sometimes we forget how small new plantings start out or where we put something if they die back like tulips and daffodils. I also love being able to reference what I have done in the past for annuals in ground and in pots. With 5 seasons worth of photos I have a very useful timeline to compare how things did and if I want to do them again.
If you are interested in seeing more of how it has changed you can find them all here.

Those weeds! Every time I find these photos I show them to my husband and daughter to remind them what a little hard work and determination can do. The garden we enjoy today is because of that effort.
Until next time …
B.
