The Vault Coffee Shop Menu Design Project

The Vault Coffee Shop Menu Design Project

If there is one project that I am most proud of and honored to have been part of from the very beginning is The Vault Coffee Shop in Bayard, Nebraska. Tonia of The Heirloom Market has graciously brought me along her incredible journey (she’s a force that you want to partner with) and I am super proud of all the work that her and I have created together but this coffee shop is something that brings me to tears. I think I will share why in another post someday because that is not the subject of today.

The Vault needed some hard copy menu’s so after a little guidance from Tonia as to what needed to be on there I designed a menu that is simplistic in design but full of information. As with anything that is going to represent a business, there needs to be continuity with design. Font’s need to be consistent, the logo needs to remain the same, and any design elements added need to stay true to what has already been created.

When it comes to fonts I think it is best to choose only a small grouping of fonts to use on any piece that represents the business. There should be a main font that is used, like in a logo, and then a couple of secondary fonts that are used to bring more depth to a design. With the menu I decided to keep the fonts to only two, using the main font for most of the text and a secondary font to highlight a couple of pieces of information. The Vault’s main font is very representative of the brand. It’s a strong, all caps font that is easy to read when used in a small size and that was perfect for this application.

The brick wall inside of The Vault with the logo painted on it is what people remember so it definitely needed to go on the front of the menu. Using the logo on the front, inside, and back reinforces where this menu is from and embeds that logo into people’s minds so that it becomes more and more recognizable. There is a lot of thought that goes into creating graphics and tangible pieces for a business!

That is a bit of the process of creating this menu for The Vault Coffee Shop. Now I’m in need of a cup of coffee! If you are in the Nebraska Panhandle and in the area of Bayard, you must stop by this coffee shop. I would love for you to experience how special it is.

Tonia actually reminded me yesterday that we started working on this venture together 5 years ago! How things have grown in 5 years!! If you didn’t catch the blog post about these menu’s you can find it here. […]
