I’m currently in a posting theme for March (concentrated on IG, but sharing some here, too) called #Unfolio. It’s the end of week three and it has been a very interesting exercise. On one side I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing these images and the why I took them without comparing them with what I consider my portfolio work. It’s felt freeing to share in this way and with it being the theme for the month I’m not trying to sprinkle them in. On the other side, it’s been interesting to see if engagement would change and what images people liked most. The jellyfish images are sort of an in-between what I consider my portfolio and not. I do include them in the portfolio but it’s not my typical work of landscapes and florals. The lovely people on Substack loved the jellyfish images! IG couldn’t care less if anyone see’s or engages.
Strangely enough, it’s more of an encouragement to continue on and remember that I don’t serve an algorithm, but that I simply love photography and the enjoyment of seeing the little beautiful moments that come in life. I feel pulled to share that here to inspire others to take a sledge hammer to the algorithm box and share even if it doesn’t “fit” in to whatever you’ve been told.
This week’s images are mostly from moments with my family, a vacation to California and a day trip to the zoo. I share them because they are wonderful memories for me but also because I do love the images. They are not perfect and won’t be in my portfolio but it’s still just me loving this art in all areas of my life.

The third week of images with a little explanation of each is below.
- one of my creative outlets is decorating our home and naturally I’m going to photograph those spaces. I enjoy practicing interior design photography, it will make you see light differently and most importantly the color of light. It also makes you a better decorator when you see a room through a viewfinder.
- shells on the shore … contrast and texture is what caught my eye plus curiosity as to why there were so many piled up like this. Was my first trip to the California coast.
- as we were walking down a street toward the ocean I had to stop to photograph the scene in front of me. The street sign, palm tree, restaurants restocking drinks, and people walking. It felt right to save that moment.
- it’s classic California coast right? A rusty VW Bus parked near a lighthouse on the coast of California. I wasn’t walking away without a photo.
- the elephant is almost perfectly framed by the wood trunks with the rocks in the foreground and I loved the towering umbrella structure above.
Thank you for reading today. I hope it inspires you to share something that you have stopped yourself from putting out there for others to see.
