#Unfolio – Week 2

#unfolio week 2 - Brenda Landrum Photographer

Week two of #unfolio is going strong and I finally shared an image I’ve been sitting on since last May, the woman painting in the botanic gardens. I don’t typically take photos of strangers in public but this moment made me stop and photograph her. I never planned to share it because it doesn’t fall in line with what I typically do but when I come across it I always stop to view it.

I’m in a season (if you will) of wanting to tear open the box the “experts” have told us to stay in when it comes to sharing online. Niching down and staying within one genre is just not what I’m interested in, never have been but I was trying to follow to rules. I crave having a sense of awe and wonder of the world around me as I go through life and I use photography to document and share those moments. No box, no rules … just creativity and the willingness to slow down enough to notice and create something from it.

The second week of images with a little explanation of each is below.

  1. came across the woman painting as we were strolling through the Denver Botanic Gardens. She was with a group of younger painters who had louder agendas but her quiet presence and peacefulness as she painted made me stop and to take a photograph.
  2. this one might actually end up in my portfolio, I have other jellyfish images in there and it will probably join them, but I’m sharing it in the #unfolio because it’s not typical work of mine, yet I think it’s important to go outside what’s typical.
  3. dead trees can be beautiful, too
  4. just a camera hanging from a doorknob and noticing vertical lines

Thank you for reading today. I hope it inspires you to share something that you have stopped yourself from putting out there for others to see.
