Everything in the garden is resting. The only green I see are the juniper trees standing tall in the low sunlight, the very few boxwoods peeking out from the mulch, and the amazing pincushion plants that somehow keep their green leaves during the coldest time of year. I start to grow tired of the brown that surrounds us here in Colorado and long for the first leaves in Spring.
Yet, there is beauty and soft deep color found in the dried petals of dahlia blooms saved from a farmers market visit long ago. They bring inspiration to a season that feels completely barren, where my hibernating creativity is difficult to wake from its slumber. The light streaming in through the blinds is what awakens me and I find a spark of enthusiasm. I grab my faithful camera friend and we start exploring the scene together.
