The garden is a place of inspiration for me and as a creative person having sources of inspiration brings abundant joy. I love taking care of this space and watching the plants grow and bloom. In August the white daisies and the purple allium blooms are thriving. They provide a brightness to the garden at the end of a hot summer. I find that it’s really important to having blooms at different times of the season. Tulips and Daffodil’s in Spring. Baptisia, Peony, Iris and Catmint early Summer. Roses, Pincushion and Salvia in the Summer. And then Daisies, Echinacea and Allium late summer. Some of these overlap and have longer blooms times which I love.
The edible garden hasn’t been doing as well as far as tomatoes, squash and cucumbers. I’ll be lucky to get 1 tomato this year I think. Peppers on the other hand are doing well so to make my salsa I’ll have to get tomatoes from my mom. We’ve been talking about possibly adding another raised bed along the deck to provide more rotation space for the edibles as they do not do as well in our clay soil. Every year I work on the clay soil to continue to condition it more and more by adding compost, just takes time.
So here is a look at the garden in August.
