Finally the first garden post of 2025! May is when we typically plan out the things we would like to do in the garden. This year we decided to refresh all the shredded wood mulch on the terraces and move a strip of rock to do mulch instead. Mulch upslope from rock was not working out the best so we are moving the rock to fill in some other areas and think the cedar mulch will look nicer.
We were able to get the bottom terrace done and man does it look so nice. We discovered sifting shredded cedar out of rock was a little harder so had to find some better tools to help us. Rock is never an easy job so it is going much slower than we would like, especially now that the days are hotter. Even though the top terrace is not completed, I decided I better take some photos before the first flush of flowers are done. Give me a beautifully lit evening with no wind and I’ll be grabbing my camera and heading outside.
It is a joy to see this garden mature. When you take something from just dirt and the most fabulous weed crop ever to something filled with beautiful plants and flowers I simply cannot help but beam with joy. So far everything this year has been doing very well. There are some things that I probably need to move like the lavender and echinacea so they can get more sunlight. Of course there is always room for new plants to be added each year. Our first couple of years we planted a lot but now I just add a few plants each year and I really like that pace. So far I have only added a sonic bloom weigela and a couple of the new better boxwoods renaissance.
Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy the first look at the garden in 2025!
