2024 September Garden

The garden is at its full peek after a summer of growth. The lavender is blooming, the grasses look beautiful and the salvia has completely taken over the pot. The hummingbirds come by multiple times a day to visit the salvia, it’s their favorite. We have a ton of tomatoes this year which we are excited about because that means I get to freeze lots of salsa to use all winter long. Not everything is thriving though and some plants are finishing their season. The ornamental onion is done blooming and producing seeds. The hardest hit every year are the petunias. I love supertunias from Proven Winners because they are fast growing and provide impact in pots. The downside is that the budworms love them and no matter how hard I try to fight them and how many the wasps hunt at some point the plant just can’t handle their pressure any longer. Usually in September I deem the battle over and I put the petunias out of all the pots. And that’s ok! I know that going into it and I get a lot of joy from them for 4 months. It’s almost time to start cleaning out some things anyway.
