It’s the end of gardening season and to be honest, I’m typically glad to get a little break from taking care of the garden. The last plants blooming are the purple/pink chrysanthemums, purple salvia in the pot for the last hummingbirds migrating through, and of course the purple Russian sage. It’s nice to still see some blooms in the garden this late in the season as snow is just around the corner for us. Soon most of this will turn brown and go dormant for the winter.
I’m so happy with how this garden has evolved over the last few years. When we moved in Summer of 2020, this was all just weeds. The builder did all the terraces and filled it with good ‘ol crappy Colorado clay dirt but they let it sit and fill with weeds. That summer we started ripping out those weeds as best we could to prepare to start working on it the following spring. Now this garden is filling with beautiful plants that we get to enjoy not just while outside but inside, too. Because of how it terraces uphill, our garden is our view from our first floor. We love it! We don’t have to look out onto our neighbors (only the second floor bedrooms) and it feels so private.
So this is the end for this year but it will be a great joy to see it all come back to life next spring.
The Fox!! You must scroll to the end to see the sweet little fox that decided to take a morning nap in our Spartan Junipers. She moved around a few times, would watch us watching her, perk up when dogs were moving about but mostly she rested. She looked to feel so safe in our yard and I didn’t mind one bit. I could see her while doing my chores in the kitchen and around the house and it was such a joy. There was some concern that maybe something was wrong but after lunch she moved on. We’re pretty sure it’s the same fox that visits our yard often and if she’s catching pests and not destroying anything she can come all she wants.
